Contrary to popular belief: Wild "Feral" Honeybee Colonies are plentiful in Southwest Florida, not endangered, not going extinct, nor are they in short supply. Beekeepers are not necessarily qualified as "bee removers". Bee removal should be performed by an experienced, live bee removal specialist... simply being a registered beekeeper is insufficient. Wild "Feral" Colonies which are rescued, removed, or relocated must be "requeened" with a new queen of known genetics and the colony registered with the State of Florida. Even though the media or somebody advised you to "Call a Beekeeper"... it should be clarified that the Beekeeper additionally should be experienced, trained, and skilled not only in beekeeping, but in live bee removal, rescues, and relocations. Be aware that there are live bee removal specialists who are not beekeepers. However, I consider it a very important plus to be a beekeeper as a prerequisite to becoming a live bee removal specialist.
For many reasons (too many to discuss fully here), collecting wild, feral swarms and nests in Southwest Florida is not (nor should it be) a recommended method of obtaining bee colonies, especially for newbies or beginning beekeepers. There are plenty of better and recommended options for obtaining new colonies of bees of known genetics, disease & pest free, less work, less risk, than to collect bees from structures, meter boxes, and tall trees.
